Race 1:

MY SELECTION: #7 Florida's Quixote (7-1)

How the raced finished - #8 broke to the lead with #1 sitting just behind through the first quarter of the race. They dueled each other out of the race and #9 shook free from the others under steady handling from Centeno.

Race 2:

MY SELECTION: #3 - Unseen Glory (17-1)

How the raced finished - #3 and #11 both pressed the pace early in the race and passed the early leaders. They shook clear of the rest of the field and #11 broke away from #3 very late in the race. Up late was the #10 for third.

Race 3:

MY SELECTION: #2 - Sundarban (9-2)

How the raced finished - Big favorite #9 pressed the lead the entire way and showed his class in the end winning relatively easily. 3rd and 4th choices #1 and #10 rounded out the trifecta after being near the front most of the way. My selection was near the front and dwindled to last.

Race 3:

MY SELECTION: #1 - Pitchnicholas (6-1)

How the raced finished - Favorite #7 made a move to come up from 10th place in the race to battle in the stretch for a victory. #9 was on the lead most of the race and battled back nicely on the rail and just missed. #10 came up to the outside of my selection #1 and pinched him in causing mine to check and back up. #10 earned third.

Race 5:

MY SELECTION: #4 - Gallant Lover (23-1)

How the raced finished - Canterbury jockey JJ Garcia a typical gate ride by him got his horse out on the front end and lasted at 5-1. Got the perfect trip and did not receive a whole lot of pressure. #2 and #7 both came from mid-pack to pick up the pieces in the pools. My 23-1 bomber selection got out of the gate nicely but got our run by the #5 and quit in the stretch. Finished 4th.

Race 6:

MY SELECTION: #2 - Lady L (11-1)

How the raced finished - The #6 horse flew to the lead and dwindled to the back of the pack. Typical run by a Christophe Clement turf horse, #10 sat just behind the big fave and pounced down the outside to outkick him in the end. #7 Finished 2nd and #5 beat out my 11-1 longshot for fourth.

MY SELECTION: #6 - Chief Talkeetna (4-1)

MY SELECTION: #1/#1A - Coffee in Bed (SCR #1) - (14-1)

How the raced finished - The horse I should have picked #6 - Rock Candy won again at Tampa. Loves the track and gradually ran the field down from off the pace. My horse checked badly after the start, rushed up, and quit. Big favorite #3 was flying down the stretch but could only get third. #7 held on for 2nd after moving with the #6.

MY SELECTION: #4 - Ballymore Lady (6-1)

How the raced finished - The grey #1 - Elusive Lady looked to have the toughest race and still hang on for 2nd. I finally got one of my horses to pounce after geting a perfect trip from Lezcano. #4 wore down #1 and won by a length or so. Longshot #7 picked up third

(G3) SAM F DAVIS - ( DOUBLE POINTS )

MY SELECTION: #10 - Suma (33-1)

How the raced finished - #2 - General Quarters ran very impressively around the rail of the racetrack the entire way. After just missing in his last start he looked much the best against this group. #10 - Sumo my longest shot of the day was sitting perfectly around the track and had to go three wide on the turn or he might have had a shot. He finished a good second ahead of #9

Race 12-

MY SELECTION: #4 - Heaven's Reward (8-1)

How the raced finished - The rider of #4 got his whip caught in the reins or I probably would have finished the card with amuch needed winner. #9 streaked right past #4 and #11 caught 2nd at a long price.

WEEK 2 POINTS: 1358
TOURNAMENT TOTAL POINTS: 1614

More than likely I will finish in the top 50 with my selection of the 33-1 Suma in the Sam F. Davis, but I had a rough day early on. I went a lot of races without and points. The winner will get close to 2000, but I got myself back into overall contention this week.

Moving on to Turf Paradise next week. Surprisingly, I don't think this had ever been a contest track but I am really looking forward to it. I have had a ton of success there this year. With Justin Evans suspended for giving his horses ethanol, look to Mike Chambers for all of the winners towards the end of the meet.

Prediction

Sam F. Davis winner - #10 Suma

Is Stardom Bound for the Derby?

It was a very impressive ride by Mike Smith Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA. If you haven't seen the show, Jockeys (Friday, 8PM EST Animal Planet), I highly recommend it if you love horse racing. There was a point in the show when he was riding Zenyatta that his worst fear was screwing up her perfect record. He feels that if she loses it isn't her fault. Rather, he takes the responsibility for the horse getting the proper trip and getting her in the right position to succeed. The same could be said this season. He had the terrific two year-old filly, champion Stardom Bound with Derby aspirations running in her first three year-old race this past Saturday. She broke dead last in a field of six. He moved her up on the rail on the back stretch within three lengths of the leader. He got her into a little bit of trouble on the far turn, but split horses and had a ton of momentum as the filly hit the final quarter pole. She rallied like the champion she is and won by a little over a length.

Michael Iavarone of IEAH Stables has pointed her towards the Santa Anita Derby, the top prep race for California horses looking to become one of the contenders of the biggest race of the year.

America should not criticize this team for pointing a filly towards the Derby because of what happened to Eight Belles last year. This filly is the real deal and I can't wait to see how she does against the boys in the next couple months.

I have a feeling America could be in for a fun ride with this filly this Spring. After I saw the move she made in the Breeders Cup, my eyes have been on this one.
